ModelApproachAdmissions & Financial AidAfrican-led Charities

microfinance-meeting
Covalent Global Capital limits its international efforts substantially to working with African-led charities. African-led charities refers to organizations operated, supervised, or controlled by or in connection with citizens or refugees of African countries.

Our first work is in Kenya. We work with NGOs, CBOs, Self-help groups, community-focused religious groups and both public and private schools all across Kenya. As we grow and expand we hope to work in other countries in Africa and provide wide-spread coverage of their charitable sector.

While most U.S. Charities and foundations rely on 3rd parties and advisors, we conduct our own networking and community organizing to bring unseen access to our Grant Associates. Most U.S. organizations see fewer than 100 charitable opportunities per African country. We seek to deliver at least 2,000 (and possibly as high as 10,000) active, viable charitable projects and organizations in Kenya alone.

NONGOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS (NGOs)

Domestic NGOs are the largest organizations that carryout charitable work in Kenya. There are roughly 5,000 registered NGOs in Kenya. Their work is often national or regional in scope. We work with the NGO Council to assure that the NGOs we work with are of the highest quality.

COMMUNITY BASED ORGANIZATIONS (CBOs & Self-Help Groups)

Community based organizations are organization that works for charitable and limit their scope to benefiting their community. Similarly, Self-Help Groups can work for charitable purposes and limit their work to benefiting their community and neighborhood. Additionally there are women's groups, cooperatives, and various networks that serve communities in a charitable capacity.

Community-based self-help groups grew out of a tradition of Harambee promoted by Jomo Kenyatta, the first president of Kenya. Harambee, means to pull together, and these groups have helped build many of school since independence. The groups have expanded and diversified their actives over the years to address the needs of their communities.

In 1992, researchers estimated that there were 20,000 registered groups as well as thousands of women's groups. Our organizing work suggests we will be able to reach at least 2,000 groups across the country.

PRIMARY & SECONDARY SCHOOLS

There are thousands of primary schools (elementary schools) and secondary schools (high schools) across Kenya that face chronic underfunding and overcrowding. The Government has implemented free, universal primary schooling but has been unable to deliver adequate resources to meet to demand for education.

We expect to offer thousands of projects initiated and sponsored by the schools themselves. The likely project areas will propose to (1) hire more teachers to reduce extreme overcrowding, (2) hire more administration to keep the resources and children safe, (3) offer feeding programs to orphans and poor children, (4) buy books, paper, and other supplies for the schools.

Our Values
Our work fosters charitable giving to Africa that is truly inspired and responsible. We produce recognizable and lasting effects that create fair opportunities and improve communities in both Africa and America.

Is Closed
The pilot of PamojaConnect gained one of the largest followings on Twitter, out of Africa. However, this system was not able to bring direct value to the people in Africa or Covalent Global and therefore has been shut down. We will use the SMS-web technology in other aspects of our work.
