At Covalent Global Capital, we don't make grants to African-led charities. Instead, our Grant Associate donors make a donor-advised grant to an African-led charity. Our work and funds help support and leverage that grant. We work this way for a number of reasons.

First, as an inclusive organization we need many different perspectives in order give each African-led charity a fair shot at funding. We value diversity and have chosen not to center the power of funding decisions at the top of our organization. Rather individuals, real people, have the opportunity to make a life-changing grant through our Grant Associate Program.

Second, we want to encourage transparency and sharing. As an organization it is critical that we know the good and the bad – not just the good. By not being a gatekeeper of funds, African-led charities can start to see us for what we really are, a link between donors and the charities. Covalent Global Capital is an intermediary with both the charities' and donors' interests at heart. Both donors and charities in Africa are greatly underserved and vulnerable to misinformation. We help correct this inequity through our generous work and support.

And third, donors contributing to Covalent Global Capital deserve exceptional charitable work that supports our cause. Most donors do not give in support of a particular project or even a particular organization, but rather they give to a cause. The cause speaks to their interests and values in life. Our cause, to end poverty and create healthy communities and fair opportunities for prosperity in Africa is one of the most urgent and important causes in the world. We feel that the honest support of a cause is best done by: 1) empowering many social leaders and voices (Grant Associates) and 2) supporting the charitable work that already exists within the community and will stay there with a significant and sustainable presence (African-led Charities).
